On the evening of July 9th, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation welcomed over 250 attendees to an Indigenous Welcome Gala that was held on traditional territory. The event was held on the grounds of Fort York National Historical Site in downtown Toronto, and boasted the sights and sounds of a natural landscape; including trees, hide, indigenous plants, animals and furs. The menu also captured an indigenous flavour and included items such as west coast cedar smoked salmon, grilled bannock and juniper roasted bison.
The Mississaugas of the New Credit was thrilled to kick off the official hosting duties to the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games with an unforgettable night featuring live entertainment provided by Old Chicago, The Mark LaForme Band, Chantal Kreviazuk and Buffy Sainte-Marie. Aboriginal culture was also a focus of the evenings entertainment and included Mississaugas of the New Credit band members, Quentin Sault and Elix Sault performing traditional dance.
The Pan Am Games Secretariat sends a big Chi-Miigwetch to all in attendance and to the staff, volunteers and vendors that made the night truly unforgettable.
